Saint Croix, which is noted to be the largest U.S. Virgin Island, can easily mesmerize you as soon as you set foot on its shores along the Caribbean Sea. This little island has white sandy beaches, historical treasures, and local customs to be discovered by those seeking adventure and relaxation. This idyllic island getaway is a place for those who seek leisure, adventure and the true extravagance of Caribbean living. From the best places to eat and stay, here is your complete guide to how you can make the most of Saint Croix.

Beaches and Outdoor Activities

Beaches and Outdoor Activities

Each beach of Saint Croix is known for its unique charm. Due to the colorful coral reefs and numerous marine lives, Cane Bay Beach is one of the most famous places to go for snorkeling and diving. The crystal-clear waters and mostly flat surface allow for both beginner snorkelers as well as the more experienced.

One of our other favourites is Rhythms at Rainbow Beach, which has nice vibes and great sunsets, too. This beach is located just outside of Frederiksted, and it offers gentle, sloping, soft white sand with calm waters good for swimming. There are two restaurants right at the beach and even a few bars here, so you can sit down while enjoying it in all its glory. There are local food stands and bars along the beach where you can eat or have a drink near the sea.

Another secluded gem is Jack’s Bay, which boasts crystal blue water and soft white sand. It is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. For a little adventure, hiking trails at Salt River Bay National Historical Park provide excellent coastal views and touring opportunities for the historic site where Columbus first landed in 1493.

For adventure seekers, Buck Island Reef National Monument is another must-see. Snorkeling on an underwater trail among colorful coral formations & hundred types of tropical fishes. There is also a lovely beach on the island that offers you ample opportunities to relax after your snorkeling adventure.

Point Udall is a great spot for hiking and for nature lovers, you can see some amazing sights from here. Being further east in the US, you can catch some great sunrises here. The Point Udall hike meanders along picturesque trails and offers sweeping views of the ocean as well as surrounding terrains. So, it’s a peaceful and calm place that is ideal for a morning walk or to relax on the beautiful island.

Cultural and Historical Attractions

Cultural and Historical Attractions

Saint Croix offers a very rich history and culture, simply drive around to see some of these sites. Christiansted is home to the Christiansted National Historic Site – filled with well-preserved Danish colonial buildings and monuments. Here you will find Fort Christiansvaern, which is a 17th century fort with views of the harbor and Charlotte Amalie. As you stroll the cobblestone streets of Christiansted, take note of historic churches and shops full of unique finds and local restaurants.

You can also learn about the history of sugar plantations on the island at Estate Whim Plantation Museum, another notable historical site. The museum gives a guided tour of the refurbished estate, bringing to life what would be serving as an exhibition piece in front of its agricultural past and painting.

If you prefer a more cultural experience, head over to the St. George Village Botanical Garden where you will see displays of tropical plants and ruins that depict historical Caribbean culture.  The garden is a quiet and tranquil place to take in some air and wander amongst flowers, plants, and heritage.

Restaurants in Saint Croix are diverse and offer special dishes for every occasion. Another one of our regular haunts is Harvey’s, where you will find a great smorgasbord spread in the dressing room and good food for 19th hole dining.
